  • INTRODUCTION TO THE DESIGNERS' KIT

    Welcome! 
    This kit has been developed in the context of the ENhANCE project, funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, and aims at supporting VET providers to design and run training for Family and Community Nurses (FCN). 

    In particular, the project has produced a EU Curriculum for FCN, which is the main outcome of the project, along with a number of DESIGN TOOLS and GUIDELINES to support the proper instantiation of the curriculum in actual courses.
    These tools and guidelines have been collected in this ONLINE DESIGNERS' KIT, which will thus support any VET DESIGNER in the proper use of the FCN Curriculum.

    The KIT is organized in 4 main SECTIONS:

    1. The FCN EU Curriculum: this section introduces the main outcome of the project linking to the digital version of its final release.
    2. Tools for Curriculum instantiation: this section includes guides and tools for the proper localization of the general Curriculum in your own context.
    3. Supplementary readings for an effective Curriculum instantiation: this section outlines further guides about Work based Learning, Practice Sharing and Personalized Learning.
    4. Tools for courses implementation: this section provides important tools for the design and the description of your own courses.

  • The EU FCN Curriculum

     The final release of the FCN EU Curriculum includes the description 52 Learning Outcomes grouped into 7 Units of Learning Outcomes.

     Learning Outcomes (LOs) are described in terms of Knowledge, Skills and Personal and Transversal Competences. 

    The FCN EU Curriculum is:

    • based on a FCN Professional Profile made by 28 Core Competences, characterizing the FCN at EU level;
    • learning outcome oriented” and compliant with the main EU standard and tools for VET, such as ECVET, EQAVET, ESCO, EQF, etc.;
    • general and “across-the-board”, since it is supposed to play a reference role for any VET designer targeting FCN profile in any EU country;
    • modular and flexible, since it is supposed to be adaptable to different contexts and rules in different EU countries.

    It includes a strong Work Based Learning component and  fosters the development of Practice Sharing through both formal and non-formal/informal learning.

    The European Reference Curriculum for FCN developed by the ENhANCE Project targets graduate nurses (entry level: EQF6) and is aimed at EQF7 level. Thus, taken as a whole, the Curriculum can be used to design FCN specialization courses awarding 60 ECTS, and due to its flexible and modular design, it can also be used to design localized curricula awarding more or fewer ECTS. This means it can award an FCN certificate at either EQF7 or EQF6 level (see How to set the proper EQF level?).

    The final version of the FCN European Curriculum outlined in this Kit targets Learning Outcomes at EQF7 level.

    Aside to the list of LOs, an ASSESSMENT TABLE is provided. It aims to support the selection and adoption of the proper assessment methods for each Learning Outcome.

      The FCN EU Curriculum is supposed to be GENERAL and "ACROSS THE BOARD" in order to be adaptable to different contexts.

      The GUIDES and TOOLS provided in this section have the aim to support the proper instantiation of the FCN Curriculum with respect to the EQF level, the number of ECTS awarded for the achievement of each LO, the creation of modules and the identification of the proper teaching/learning strategies.

      • SUPPLEMENTARY READINGS FOR AN EFFECTIVE CURRICULUM INSTANTIATION

        The FCN EU Curriculum includes a strong Work Based Learning (WBL) component and fosters the development of Practice Sharing through both formal and non-formal/informal learning. It also supports Personalized Learing through the Recognition of Prior Learning, i.e. a process by which the prior learning of an individual, gained in formal, informal  or non-formal  settings is validated against a set of criteria and is assigned a credit value.

        In this section of the Designers' Kit are provided supplementary readings supporting a contextualization of the FCN Curriculum which effectively takes into account the above mentioned important elements.

        • TOOLS FOR COURSES IMPLEMENTATION

          Once you've created your own LOCALIZED CURRICULUM, the next step will be to DESIGN THE SPECIFIC COURSE you're going to implement.

          So, based on what you've formalized in the FLEXIBILITY TOOL, you should define the specific TEACHINGS (and related TEACHERS) targeting each LO, as well as a the course schedule and a number ASSESSMENT ISSUES.

          In ENhANCE project we've delivered some useful TOOLS, which could be used as TEMPLATES for the formalization of the DESIGN of the COURSE.

           "Formalizing" design choices is fundamental to share your ideas with the teachers of your course and to monitor the effectiveness of your work.
